MEETING NOTES Thursday April 4, 2013

On Thursday April 4th at 4:30pm, the following South Shore residents met at the Black United Fund of Illinois Headquarters: Sharon Lewis, Valencia Rias-Winstead, Jamal Barnes and Vicky Wooten. The purpose was to discuss missions, goals and action items for the formation of a South Shore TIF committee. This meeting was a follow up to the Tom Tresser Civic Lab TIF Illumination meeting held on Saturday March 30th at the SSICP and the subsequent informal meeting at Starbucks.

Goals, Missions & Action Items:

TIF Advisory Committees for Wards 5, 7 & 8
Sharon Lewis will lead the charge to reach out to the three South Shore Aldermen to establish TIF Advisory Committees so that we can interface our efforts with them.

TIF State Legislation/Policy
Valencia Rias-Winstead will conduct research to discover what is the legislation shaping TIF law.

Economic Development & Education
Vicky Wooten will look into economic development opportunities for South Shore that may be provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and how we can create educational pathways to “High Impact” jobs; particularly CISCO, Green Technology and Computer Programming.

TIF Financial Analysis
Jamal Barnes will provide financial analysis materials surrounding TIF. He will email materials to other committee members.

Social Media
Although she was not in the meeting, Val Free was in the BUFI office for another matter and was approached on providing summer youth workers to work on using social media to build a coalition of South Shore residents to support community driven TIF initiatives.

Future Meeting
Thursday April 11th at BUFI 5:00pm. Committee members will bring the aforementioned follow-up to the April 4th meeting.
